Islands Bakery started in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in the 1980's. It became a part of the Newman Family in 1988. At that time Islands Bakery was baking some wonderful sandwich and hearth loaves but they were only available to the fortunate residents of San Juan Island. For the first few years the bakery was experimenting with new recipes and new loaves of bread that were not available commercially. Pepper Parmesan Sourdough, Italian Peasant, and MultiGrain were just a few. After developing a number of high quality recipes and realizing an absence of widely available "home style" bread, Islands Bakery moved off island in 1990 to our present home in Arlington, Washington.
Following the move to the mainland Islands Bakery set out to fill a niche in the commercial bread market. We deliver wholesome, fresh products to select food outlets throughout the Northwest United States region and beyond while maintaining the standard set years before of hand made quality and superior ingredients.
Currently, Islands Bakery continues to provide consumers with fresh baked, wholesome recipes that are still made the old fashioned way. With caring hands we cut, weigh, and knead each loaf that leaves our factory. In addition to expanding our distribution we have developed some tasty new recipes in recent years shuch as Cinnamon Swirl, HOT Jalapeno Cheese, and Rosemary Olive Country Hearth.
Although we have grown recently we still honor the tradition of working for the consumer. By baking and delivering special orders, providing our stale product for livestock feed, and baking fresh bread for local food banks, we have not forgotten to be civil in today's civilization.
