San Juan Salsa Co. began in a resident kitchen in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island. In the late 1980's a couple of resident bakers decided that if they could bake and sell high quality breads & rolls, they should be able to make and sell high quality all natural salsa. Thus became the marriage of Islands Bakery and San Juan Salsa Co.
In the beginning there were five flavorful sauces that filled the gamut of tastes from Mild to Hot, including a Traditional (uncooked) Gold Label variety. The bakers turned salsa makers realized a need to fine tune the company's offerings and quickly went to work. The first task was to improve the company's already popular Organic Black Bean Dip. So with a dash of spice here and a hint of hot there, an improved recipe was introduced to accompany an all new Afterburner salsa, hotter than hot they say.
With the growing success of two ventures, our new salsa makers decided to go one step further and introduce San Juan Salsa Co. All Natural Tortilla Chips. A natural compliment to the salsa sauces. It started with the original White Label variety, all natural yellow corn tortilla chips. Next came the Gold Label, fresh ground corn variety that combines fresh cooked corn mash with equal parts corn masa flour, fresh corn taste with slightly less fat set these chips apart. Call them the Gold Standard. Recently we added our own Green Label variety, white corn with sesame seeds.
Today, San Juan Salsa Co. continues to prepare fine fresh, palate pleasing sauces from our home in Arlington using only the highest quality farm fresh ingredients, and the only "cold packed" tomato from Stanislaus Co.
